Drop-Off Sites

Drop-Off Sites

Public Notice

(published March 18, 2021)

The South Central Counties Solid Waste Agency (SCCSWA) is under contract with Parks’ Garbage Service Inc., to collect and dispose of recycling materials deposited in the bins in Porter, Oneida, Jackson and Dublin Townships, Huntingdon County, PA.

Due to increased costs for recycling and the plummeting recycling market, the Agency can no longer subsidize the operational costs for these bins. Consequently, on Monday, March 8, 2021 the SCCSWA voted to discontinue the 4 drop off locations within Huntingdon County. The schedule for the closure of the 4 sites is indicated below.
Huntingdon County:

- Porter Township: March 25 and March 30, 2021 (There are 2 bins at this location)
- Jackson Miller Elementary School-Jackson Township: March 25, 2021
- Oneida Township: March 31, 2021
- Wood Mizer-Dublin Township: March 31, 2021

There are other facilities that are under a separate contract that will remain available for residents to deposit recycling materials. In Huntingdon County they are located in Smithfield Township on Fairgrounds Road, the James Creek Post Office in Marklesburg Borough and Parks Garbage Service Facility, in Shirley Township.

Please direct all questions regarding this notice to James P. Lettiere, AICP, Planning Director who can be reached at (814) 643-5091 or at jlettiere@huntingdoncounty.net.

The Huntingdon County Recycling Program has participated in coordinating and promoting the use of drop-off collection sites at three locations around the County.  These sites are serviced by Waste Systems International, Inc. (WSI), operator of a local private landfill as a condition of their landfill permit.  The Huntingdon County Recycling Coordinator coordinates servicing these sites and conducts community education
about recycling.

The Drop-off Sites will accept metal cans (including  aluminum, steel (tin) and bi-metal food and beverage containers, aerosol cans), old telephone books, newspapers, and magazines.

Improper Use of Drop-off Containers

It is never appropriate to leave garbage or recyclables outside the drop-off container. If the there are items sitting outside the container, do not add your recyclables.  Instead, contact your local Recycling Coordinator to have the container serviced.

Recyclable materials placed outside of a drop-off container leave the area unsightly and foul.  The drop-off program depends on the cooperation of public-spirited organizations who act as site sponsors and volunteers who monitor each site.

Please help keep these areas clean!
