Winter Alerts

HIGHWAY Winter Alert!

Don't park vehicles on the street/highway during a snowstorm.

Remove all vehicles before a storm and keep them off the streets/highways until they have been cleared.

Having vehicles in the street delays snow removal.

Don't push or shovel snow onto the street/highway.

This causes a safety hazard and could cause or contribute to an accident/crash. You can be fined and held responsible for the accident/crash. Frozen piles of snow also can cause damage to the plow truck.

Prepare your vehicle for winter driving.

Maintain your vehicle for inclement weather - good traction tires, proper coolant, good wiper blades, full fuel tanks, emergency blanket, leave a trip itinerary. If stranded, be sure to keep vehicle exhaust exit port open, free of snow, etc. Never sit in stranded running vehicle without maintaining proper ventilation. If you are not confident when driving on snow or ice, don't drive. Share the ride with someone or change your schedule so you don't have to drive until the streets/highways are clear.

Know that when the streets/highways are plowed, the snow will go into your driveway.

Clearing a wider area on the edge of the street/highway before your driveway will allow much of the snow to leave the plow before it gets to your driveway.

Mailboxes

Mailboxes are to be located off the street/highway sufficient to permit the mail carrier vehicle to pull off the street/highway cartway. The Township is not responsible for mailbox damage unless physically struck by the plow truck, and then only if the mailbox is installed in accordance to the U.S. Postal Service's specifications. Heavy snow/ice thrown from the street/highway by the plow truck will occasionally damage mailboxes and or posts. The Township is not responsible for these repairs.  For your mail carrier's convenience and safety, mailboxes are to be installed so that the distance from the bottom of the mailbox to the ground is between 38" and 40".

PLEASE DO NOT PERMIT CHILDREN TO WAIT FOR THE SCHOOL BUS IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, UNPROTECTED AND UNSUPERVISED. PROTECT THEM - THEY ARE OUR MOST PRECIOUS RESOURCE!
