Huntingdon Borough has been the County Seat since the founding of the County in 1787. Nearly all County offices are located here, many in the Courthouse. Since the construction of the present Courthouse in 1881, the County has needed more space to meet its responsibilities. In addition to expanding the courthouse and county prison, the County has acquired or rented several "annexes" to house county offices.

The Sheriff's Department is housed in the former County Jail at 241 Mifflin Street. The current County Prison, built in 1978, fronts on Church Street between 2nd Street and 4th Street.
