Growing Greener II
Huntingdon County Environmental Initiative

Under Act 45 of 2000, the Huntingdon County Commissioners have received an earmark of $1,000,000 in Growing Greener II funds from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  In order to obligate these funds, known as the Growing Greener County Environmental Initiative Program, the Huntingdon County Commissioners have adopted a Growing Greener II Strategy and Plan.  This Strategy is designed to clearly outline Huntingdon County’s process for choosing projects for submission under the County Environmental Initiative Program.

Guiding Principles

The following five principles will guide Huntingdon County’s implementation of the County Environmental Initiative Program:  Projects must be:

  1. Eligible under Act 45 of 2000, GG II;
  2. Consistent with the Huntingdon County Comprehensive Plan;
  3. Reviewed by the Huntingdon County Conservation District;
  4. Leverage other private or public dollars;
  5. Implement other plans such as:

a.  Juniata River Conservation Plan;

b.  Mainline Canal Greenway Plan;

c.  Southern Alleghenies Regional Greenway Plan;

d.  Agricultural Land Preservation Plan;

e.  Watershed Restoration Plans.

Projects

The first round of projects was approved by the County Commissioners in July 2007.  All $1,000,000 has been allocated.  Only capital projects eligible under Act 45 of 2000 guidelines were eligible for funding and were ranked by Huntingdon County.
