Huntingdon  County Treasurer

Richard S. Irvin is the County Treasurer and Director of the Huntingdon County Tax Claim Bureau.  These two departments are combined in one office.  The Tax Claim Bureau collects delinquent real estate taxes that have been turned over by the 48 tax collectors of Huntingdon County.

The Office of the County Treasurer is familiar to most county residents.  The treasurer is the official custodian of the county funds.  Complete and accurate records are kept on all the county monies, making this office one of the most important functions in county government.  Most of the monies received by the various county offices are turned over to the office of County Treasurer for deposit into the general fund or proper accounts required by law. A receipt is given for all money received.  The County Treasurer also invests county funds in short term investments and only transfers monies on an as needed basis.

On June 19, 2001 the Huntingdon County Board of Commissioners enacted Ordinance No. 2001-01, “Huntingdon County Excise Tax Ordinance” imposing a 3% hotel room excise tax.  Therefore the county treasurer implements the Hotel Excise Tax within the guidelines of the Laws of the Commonwealth, the County Code and in the Ordinance.  The Treasurers office is required to collect this tax quarterly from their venders and then disperse the funds properly.

Another function associated with the Treasurer’s Office is the issuance of licenses.  This includes hunting, furtaking, sportsman firearm permits, antlerless doe, fishing, and dog licensesSmall games of chances licenses, special raffle, limited occasion, bingo and 3-day bingo licenses are all issued with the proper application and if requirements are met.  The Treasurers Office can also do transfers for the purchasing of boatsTemporary tags can be given to those who provide the proper paper work and launch permits for unpowered vessels can be provided as well.
