Water Service Terminations Resume

The Mount Union Borough Municipal Office announces that, effective immediately, it is resuming its policy of actively terminating the water service of Mount Union Water System customers for non-payment of user fees and charges. Mount Union Borough Water Department employees began implementing this policy on Wednesday, October 5, 2005. These enforcement actions will continue indefinitely until all accounts are paid in full. Formal notifications to these delinquent customers (including this public service announcement) are not required before water service is terminated.

These water service terminations have not been enforced since May 2005 due to an ongoing major water main replacement project located in Kistler Borough. This project, that is nearing completion, required a redirection of available manpower and Mount Union Borough employees. It used Mount Union Borough Water Department employees, which severely limited the number of man-hours available to perform these service shut-offs.

All delinquent or past-due accounts must be paid in full to avoid planned service terminations for non-payment. All accounts must be brought current and paid in full. No partial payments, promissory notes, or re-payment agreements to avoid service terminations will be accepted and/ or made by employees of the Mount Union Borough Water Department and the Mount Union Borough Municipal Office. In addition, all delinquent water system customers whose water service is terminated for non-payment will be assessed and must pay a $50.00 reconnection fee prior to the resumption of service.

This resumed water service termination policy will affect all customers with delinquent accounts in the water system’s five-municipality service area in Huntingdon County and Mifflin County. The service area encompasses Mount Union Borough, and all or parts of Kistler Borough, Newton-Hamilton Borough, Shirley Township (Allenport and Hill Valley), and Wayne Township (Cedar Crest, Lucy Furnace, and Silverford Heights areas).
