Instructions for Preparation of Recyclables

RECYCLING BINS MUST BE AT THE CURB BEFORE 7:00 AM.

Collections may be postponed due to snow or ice.  Listen to WXMJ (99.5) for information or call 643-6950.

Postponed collections will be made up the next day.  If extreme weather causes the make up to be canceled, collections will resume on the next regularly scheduled collection date.

Please read the instructions.

 

1.  All items must be seperated into PAPER bags.    NO PLASTIC BAGS!

2.  GREEN BINS MUST BE USED!  Other containers may be used with the green bins.  Please have them clearly marked "Recyclables".

NEWSPRINT

* Keep dry.      *  Tie in bundles or place in PAPER bags.

* No Plastic bags.      * No magazines or books.

CLEAR GLASS

* Remove all lids.      * Wash - no food can remain

* Labels can stay on.      * Do not break.

* Does not include:   Window glass, vases, perfume bottles, pyrex or drinking glasses.

ALUMINUM CANS

* All beer and soda cans       * Includes some cat food cans. (They will not stick to a magnet.)

* Must be clean/rinsed.      * May be smashed to save space.

TIN CANS

* Must be clean, no food can remain.      * Labels may stay on.

* Can be flattened to save space.      * NO aerosol cans.

PLASTIC POP/JUICE BOTTLES

* Soda & Juice bottles only.      * Remove all lids.

* Must be clean.      * Labels may stay on.

* May be flattened to save space.

PLASTIC MILK/WATER JUGS

* Must be clean, no milk can remain.      * Remove all lids.

* NO yellow milk jugs.      * Does not include laundry items, food containers or oil bottles.

IF THE ITEMS ARE NOT PREPARED FOLLOWING THESE DIRECTIONS THEY WILL BE LEFT BEHIND IN THE BIN.

DROP OFF ITEMS

These items must be brought directly to the recycling center.  The center is located 1/2 mile beyond Laney's Feed Mill on Ice Plant Road.  Call for hours - 643-6950.

MAGAZINES

* No books.      * Keep dry.

* Place in box, bag or tie in bundles.      

* DOES NOT include:  TV Guides, Readers Diges and some catalogs (all pages must be glossy).

COLORED GLASS

* Wash - No food can remain!      * Remove all lids.

* Do not break.      * Labels may stay on.

* Must only be food and beverage containers.

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD

* No chipboard.      * No waxed cardboard.

* No oil soaked cardboard.      * Keep dry!

CHRISTMAS TREES

* Christmas trees only.      * No wreaths.

* All plastic bags must be off.      * Must be brought to the recycling center.  Do not leave at the gate!

* Must be brought back by January 30th.

NEW ITEMS TO BE PLACE CURBSIDE FOR RECYCLING!

#1 PLASTIC BOTTLES:

      Presently soda and clear water bottles may be placed in the green bin for recycling.  ADDED is any #1 Plastic that contained a liquid.  Examples would be blue water bottles, salad dressing bottles and ketchup bottles.

      All items must be clean - NO FOOD MAY REMAIN.

      All #1's should be in the same bag (paper or plastic)

#2 PLASTIC BOTTLES

      ADDED is any #2 that contained a liquid.  Examples would be laundry detergent bottles, liquid dish soap, yellow milk jugs, spray laundry stain treatment, etc.

      ALL items must be clean.  NOTHING MAY REMAIN inside any container.

      NOT INCLUDED - motor oil containers, butter type dishes.

      All the #2's must be sorted into their own bag (paper or plastic).

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF PLASTIC YOU HAVE??  ALL PLASTIC BOTTLES HAVE A TRIANGLE WITH A NUMBER.  MOST ARE ON THE BOTTOM OR ON THE LABEL.  MAKE SURE THEY ALL HAVE EITHER A NUMBER ONE OR A NUMBER TWO.
