On January 23, 2018, the Huntingdon County Commissioners passed an ordinance establishing the Huntingdon County Railroad Authority. According to this ordinance, the purpose of this authority is "to further economic development in the county and surrounding areas through the retention, improvement and/or expansion of all rail services." The ordinance enables the authority "to own or lease land, rights of way, railroad tracks, both existing and newly constructed, signals, switches and structures attendant to the operation of a railroad." The authority is also "able to acquire, by lease or purchase, equipment, property, materials, etc., necessary or attendant to the operation of rail facilities in Huntingdon County."
The authority is comprised of seven members from varying geographic areas of Huntingdon County.
Meetings of the Huntingdon County Railroad Authority are held at 1:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month.
